Albuquerque has always been the state’s largest market for
traditional Hispanic and Native American arts, including pottery, weaving and
jewelry, but it is also an excellent place to buy contemporary art. These days,
you can get particularly good bargains here because galleries in Old Town pay a
lot less in rent than galleries elsewhere. We suggest you start off at the
Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and the National Hispanic Cultural Center, which
are both fabulous places to learn about the mix of cultures that make
Albuquerque so vibrant. Then move on to the locally owned galleries and shops
in Old Town, Downtown and Nob Hill.
