The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History which is the nation's only congressionally chartered museum in its field. It's an intriguing place to learn the story of the Atomic Age. (They're a Smithsonian Affiliate member.) New location is 601 Eubank Blvd SE.
In Old Town there's The Museum of Natural History & Science, with its billions of years of natural hisory, a Dynamax Theater and the Lodestar Planetarium. Just across the street is the
Albuquerque Museum of Art & History, with a recently-completed gorgeous new wing. The museum presents the art of New Mexico as well as national and international exhibitions.
The University of New Mexico is rich with galleries and museums, the largest being the
UNM Art Museum which has a permanent collection of more than 30,000 items. A great place to see contemporary art and photography.
For a glimpse of prehistoric art, a visit to
Petroglyph National Monument Park will take you through a basaltic escarpment where more than 15,000 ancient Indian petroglyphs (rock drawings) are preserved on 7200 acres.
