You’ve probably already heard a lot about the food in Albuquerque, but did you know that we’ve got some world-class wineries and breweries? Touring a winery or visiting a tap room is one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon in the city. Two of my favorites are Gruet Winery and Marble Brewery. At Marble Brewery, in downtown Albuquerque, you can sample from among 10 beers on tap—and watch through big bay windows as the beer is made on site. Although the IPA is the most popular, I like all of the brews, from the Wildflower Wheat to the Oatmeal Stout. When the weather is nice (which is most of the year), the patio is a popular place for friends to meet for a pint. Gruet is run by a French family that has been making Champagne in France for generations. Here in Albuquerque they make sparkling wine that we love for its high quality and low price tag. Wine guru Jancis Robinson says it’s “one of America’s greatest wine buys,” but we don’t think about it. We just drink it.
