A trip to the Sandia Crest can be a full day of fun. Although it’s possible to drive around the east side of the mountain, I suggest you take the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway up to the Sandia Crest. The ride is incredible and kids love it. You might see eagles, mule deer or bears from the tram! When you get to the top, stop in at the Cibola National Forest ranger station and pick up some of the maps and booklets available there. Then set off on a hike in the mountains, where there are amazing views of the city and the volcanoes on the city’s west side. You can pack a picnic lunch or stop at the mountain-top restaurant for a bird’s eye view of the city.
