The Albuquerque metro area serves as the perfect hub for your winter recreation getaway and Albuquerque ski holidays. Did you know that Albuquerque is a mile-high city with elevations ranging from 5,000 to 6,000 feet? Sandia Peak is just minutes from downtown with a 10,678-foot summit. With 310 days of sunshine each year, in a good snow year Albuquerque's winter months provide gorgeous weather for New Mexico skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and other outdoor winter activities.

With some of the state's longest cruising terrain, a large trail network for cross-country skiing in New Mexico, and a new terrain park for snowboarders, Albuquerque's ski area, Sandia Peak is a winter sports haven right in Albuquerque's backyard. Located just on the other side of Sandia Mountain that dominates Albuquerque's eastern skyline, Sandia Peak offers a certified ski school, top-notch rental shop and Wintermill Ski Shop.

A scenic drive to the east side of the mountain will get you to the ski area in about a half an hour. Or, if you bring your own equipment, you can drive to the base of Sandia Mountain at the city's eastern edge, ride the Sandia Peak Tramway to the summit, and ski down the eastern slope of the mountains.

A short drive to the north, Ski Santa Fe is located in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, just north of Santa Fe. With a 12,075-foot summit, it is one of the country's highest ski areas. Skiers and snowboarders are welcome on seven lifts and 67 runs through the stunning high desert mountains.

New Mexico's world-renowned ski resorts set in charming mountain communities make the state an excellent destination for winter adventures. Several ski areas including Taos Ski Valley, Angel Fire and Red River are located within a one- to three-hour drive of Albuquerque, so you can make the city your base camp while you make day trips to conquer the slopes.
