ABQ Solar: New Mexico Philharmonic Orchestra & the Transit of Venus
Twice in every century, the planet Venus crosses the face of the sun, creating a small black dot that slowly moves from side to side over a period of approximately 4.5 hours. Because the transit cannot be seen without significant magnification, The Albuquerque Astronomical Society will be at the museum to project the image on LCD screens for visitors.
Enterntainment for the afternoon will be the Albuquerque Concert Band and the New Mexico Philharmonic Orchestra. The Concert Band will be playing the John Philip Sousa's composition, Transit of Venus March. The orchestra will feature Gustav Holst's The Planets Suite and John Williams E.T. and Star Wars Suites.
A delicious menu is available for purchase from The Cooperage, and a cash bar will be available. For more solar events taking place in Albuquerque please visit:
