Concert: Handel's Messiah
This is the Baroque-style Messiah that Albuquerque audiences have come to know since Roger Melone first presented it in 1987 with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. On December 16, experience Messiah with the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus and Orchestra, four Baroque soloists, and Maestro Melone conducting from his seat at the harpsichord!
Unto the New Mexico holiday season this all-time choral masterwork is given! Though the composer did not conceive of it originally as a Christmastime staple, Handel’s signature oratorio became just that within the composer’s lifetime.
With its combination of texts from the Old and New Testaments, Handel explores many aspects of Christ’s birth, life, death, and resurrection. With words taken mostly from the King James Bible and combined with some of Handel’s most ambitious musical explorations, Messiah is a truly transcendent musical moment enjoyed by audiences the world over for more than 250 years.
Roger Melone conducts the small chorus and orchestra, and an array of Baroque soloists from the harpsichord.
