LECTURE - In the Shadows of the Sangre de Christo: Arroyo Hondo Pueblo

Arroyo Hondo Pueblo, a 1,000 room 14th century pueblo located just south of Sante Fe, was partially excavated in the 1970's under the direction of Dr. Douglas Schwartz.  Results of this research were published in nine volumes by the School of American Research.  Ownership of Arroyo Hondo Pueblo was transferred to the Archaeological Conservancy in 2003 by the School of American Research and is now dedicated as a permanent archaeological research preserve.  Mr. Walter's lecture will discuss the ecology of the region, a review of the excavation and research process, the origins of the occupants of the pueblo, the cultural history of the site, and Arroyo Hondo's relationship to other settlements in the area.
