Maude Andrade Artist Reception: Speaking Swedish to the Chickens
Maude Andrade’s mixed media narrative paintings are created through the interplay of paint and collage, each transforming into a personal vocabulary of geometric forms and symbols. Her symbolic narratives map a story of place, time, or psychological terrain which may be real or imagined, or both simultaneously, giving them a meditative but mysterious tension. By constructing paintings on wooden boxes, Andrade adds a three-dimensional component to her work, blurring the line between sculpture and painting.
