Sensory Crossovers: Synesthesia in American Art

The artists, some two dozen in number, include such luminaries as Charles Burchfield, Arthur Dove, Joseph Stella, Georgia O'Keeffe and Adolph Gottlieb, showcased alongside the extraordinary talents of lesser-known painters such as Agnes Pelton, Raymond Jonson, Louis Ribak, Teresa Bernstein and Clyde Connell. The substantial catalogue accompanying the show brings alive synesthesia's intellectual underpinnings, documenting the varied formal and expressive purposes these crossovers have served for American painters.
