A crisp autumn breeze provides the perfect climatic backdrop for balloon festivals in Albuquerque. The annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta® is generally held the first and second weeks of October each year. Known as the word's largest hot air balloon festival, the balloon fiesta featured over 600 during the 2008 event. Albuquerque's fun activities in the fall aren't limited to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Description: Center for Landuse Interpretation, CLUI, Photo Archive
Land/Art explores relationships of land, art and community through exhibitions, site-specific art works, lectures and a culminating book. Focusing on "environmental" or "land" art, the collaboration seeks to address our changing relationship to nature, and to offer a new or previously unconsidered understanding of the place in which we live. It includes ecological activism, reclamation and remediation projects, and ephemeral site-specific performances, among many other approaches, all of which have in common art and artists that respond to features of our natural environment.

Broadening Horizons: Forty Years of Change—40th Anniversary Exhibit
The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History will celebrate its 40th anniversary as a museum with a temporary exhibit chronicling the years it has served Albuquerque – and the nation – as a repository of artifacts pertaining to nuclear science and history, particularly the Manhattan Project and Cold War.

Description:
The exhibit demonstrates the museum’s unique past. Rare or never-before-seen artifacts such as the Systems for Nuclear Auxiliary Power (SNAP) devices, and the “Anger Camera” (the first gamma camera developed by Hal Anger in 1957), are now on display. With 40 years of growth, change, challenge and triumph, this exhibit celebrates and explores the important people, places and items that shaped the Museum.

Confluencias II: Inside Arte Cubano Contemporáneo: Art Exhibit
Confluencias II: Inside Arte Cubano Contemporáneo is a major exhibition on Contemporary Cuban Art, which provides an exciting overview of what's happening now with significant Cuban artists and various media. The exhibition includes approximately 100 works by 40 artists working inside Cuba and is the largest group show of Cuban artists in the U.S. since the 1940s.

Cuban art, while shown internationally, is relatively unknown inside the United States due to trade sanctions since the early 1960’s. Confluencias II: Inside Arte Cubano Contemporáneo reveals a new dialogue within the Cuban/United States cultural front by bringing together an exciting overview of the work of over 40 contemporary Cuban artists. The exhibition will introduce contemporary mixed media, painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, and video-art installations. The artists explore the complexity of the Cuban experience, exploring such themes as Afro-Cuban mythology, collectivity, and the affects of a globalized world on creativity and communication.

This exhibit features toys, card games and board games with ballooning and airship themes, along with reference to real-world games that balloonists play at events such as Balloon Fiesta.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a world-renowned attraction and destination for kids of all ages. For more than three decades, the first week in October brings the smell of roasting chiles and the beautiful, magical moving picture show of hot air balloons sailing silently through the crisp fall air. Guests from all over the world come to Albuquerque to celebrate ballooning. Literally hundreds of balloons will be taking flight from the Balloon Fiesta Park this year. Description:
The Triassic saw the extinction of many dominant reptiles and the emergence of two significant evolutionary lines in Earth History – dinosaurs and mammals.  Dinosaurs emerge as a distinct group of animals in the Late Triassic and go on to dominate the Earth’s terrestrial ecosystems until the Cretaceous impact extinction – over 160 million years.  Mammals chug along in the underbrush during that time until the slate is cleared at the end of the Cretaceous, opening the way for what has been another amazing evolutionary success story.
