Description:
The Triassic saw the extinction of many dominant reptiles and the emergence of two significant evolutionary lines in Earth History – dinosaurs and mammals. Dinosaurs emerge as a distinct group of animals in the Late Triassic and go on to dominate the Earth’s terrestrial ecosystems until the Cretaceous impact extinction – over 160 million years. Mammals chug along in the underbrush during that time until the slate is cleared at the end of the Cretaceous, opening the way for what has been another amazing evolutionary success story.

Description:
Delve into the ways clouds help us understand weather, and the important role that understanding weather plays for balloonists. the exhibition features information on how weather has adversely affected a number of epic balloon flights, including those of Albuquerque ballooning pioneers Maxie Anderson and Ben Abruzzo.
Theodolite, psychrometer, barometer, thunder glass—how are they related to weather and ballooning? They are all instruments used to predict weather, and visitors can learn more about them in the exhibition. Highlights also include the history of early weather observatories and the National Weather Service.
A large area has been set aside for fun hands-on activities. Here you can learn about “lift” with a wind machine; create your own tornado; start a weather journal; and hold instruments and learn how they are used.
