The City of Albuquerque protects nearly 29,000 acres of public open space that preserve unique landscapes and sensitive habitat while providing miles of recreation trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Begin your discovery of the West Mesa, Bosque, Sandia Foothills and East Mountains at the Open Space Visitor Center nestled at the west edge of the Rio Grande bosque (Spanish for forest). The Center overlooks a wetland and 18 acres of agricultural fields dedicated to wildlife and offers education and art exhibits, demonstration gardens, recreation trails, and special programming.
