Neighboring Communities

Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo tribal dancersAlbuquerque is the perfect base from which to explore central New Mexico. The communities surrounding the city are a vital part of our cultural landscape and heritage. Many nearby Indian Pueblos allow visitors to experience Native American culture; they open their feast days to the public and often maintain visitor centers that are open throughout the year. Five nearby pueblos also boast Las Vegas-style casinos, featuring gaming, dining and live entertainment.

Albuquerque is also surrounded by many quaint towns and villages, with histories and traditions that reflect much of what makes this The Land of Enchantment. These communities play host to a variety of annual special events and community festivals.

Two of these towns are Santa Fe and Taos. These popular destinations can be visited with Albuquerque serving as your local (and convenient) home base.

Some other towns include Rio Rancho and the communities just past the mountains to Albuquerque's east. They're often referred to by locals at The East Mountains.

Stay in Albuquerque for the most convenient access to the surrounding communities that help to make Albuquerque the cultural heart of New Mexico.
