Westside
The Westside is marked by the peaks of dormant volcanoes and the treasures of Petroglyph National Monument, where visitors can walk among ancient volcanic rock etchings.
Across the
Rio Grande River lie five dormant volcanoes that helped to create
Albuquerque’s unique rift valley. High on the Westside is the best place to enjoy our famous New Mexican sunsets as glowing pink light splashes over the
Sandia Mountains. The Westside offers a variety of hiking and biking trails, many of which border or run through the extensive
Petroglyph National Monument. Visitors to the Monument can explore an estimated 20,000 ancient rock carvings against the backdrop of the glittering city skyline. Many of the petroglyph images are recognizable as animals, people, brands and crosses; others are more complex. Don’t miss a hike amongst the ancient rock carvings while immersing yourself in the beautiful high desert atmosphere. A unique juxtaposition of ancient culture and urban convenience, the Westside is a rapidly growing suburban community with abundant dining and lodging establishments.
